The way in which a person moves and stands: she had the manners and deportment of a great lady [Old French deporter to conduct (oneself)]

Everything a male and female do they do differently - sitting, walking, talking, standing, getting in and out of cars, eating, drinking, greeting others etc are all carried out in an unmistakably male or female manner.

These differences are so naturally ingrained into each sex that no one even consciously notices them. It is only when a transvestite or transsexual fails to act as a natural female that unwelcome questioning of gender occurs. It is therefore essential that feminine characteristics are developed until they become second nature.   

Define A Lady:

Sitting like a lady

When sitting, a woman tends to cross her legs. But should we? According to Maura Graber,  R.S.V.P. Institute of Etiquette, says, "When sitting, a woman should cross her legs at the ankles. For one thing, by crossing one's legs at the knees, one is cutting off circulation and can end up with spider veins. It is not considered lady-like to cross one's legs at the knees, especially if one is wearing a short skirt." 

 

 

Besides the health problems it could cause, crossing your legs is just not very comfortable. A woman tends to do it out of habit. As we all know, the pressure and the tingling afterwards can be quite unpleasant. Even though many movies zoom in on a woman's leg being sensually draped over the other, in real life , in the real cameras eye, the lighting is poor and there are real bulges sitting this way.

 

 

Another way some women tend to sit, since the appearance of  jeans is with their legs spread apart. This is never in good form when it comes to proper etiquette. As long as your demeanor is one of openness you'll easily be viewed as "laid back" as well as classy if you sit properly. It is true that you shouldn't compromise your comfortableness for the sake of propriety but you also shouldn't compromise your femininity for the sake of the world's changing views.

To break any bad habit a woman has when sitting, she needs to practice the correct way of crossing her legs. If you are one of these women, you can do this while typing at the computer, when eating a meal, or even while watching TV. At first it might feel uneasy, but remember that this is only temporary. It truly is a more comfortable, not to mention lady-like, way to sit. It's just different than what you are used to.

 

Walking like a lady

  

Keep your shoulders, hips and knees equally lined up. (In other words, good posture is KEY) Nothing looks worse than a girl who can't walk in heels, looks awkward and uncomfortable and has TERRIBLE posture. Stand up straight with your shoulders back and walk HEEL to TOE.....

The best way to CHECK your posture is to stand up straight as you can, with your arms at your sides....sometimes it helps to be looking in a mirror standing sideways....now, make the palms of your hands face OUT in front of you (with your arms still at your sides) so that your pinky finger is against your leg. Now your shoulders should be properly positioned.

KEEPING your shoulders in this position, rotate your arm from your elbow back into a normal position. THIS is the proper stance....Shoulders, hips, knees and ankles in line. It will make you look more graceful and elegant as well as ensure that you don't look like a guy walking in heels.

The most important thing to remember to looking great walking in heels is to have CONFIDENCE....walk like you have it with good posture and practice practice practice.
 
More Tips:  
  • Soften Your Shoulders

Women's shoulders do not move when they walk. Try taking a few steps while keeping your shoulders perfectly still. You will note that this immediately forces your hips to sway. Correcting your shoulders this way feminizes the rest of your walk.

  •  Put Your Hips To Work
Start pushing each hip side to side until it feels natural. Its OK to exaggerate these movements in the beginning...tone them down as you get better at it. Practice keeping your weight over the balls of your feet. Allow your arms to swing freely as you walk, this will help free your hips and loosen up your stride.
  • Use your Behind
When standing or walking, stick your behind out a bit, not a lot. Like a woman's natural curves, your buttocks will look more prominent. Wearing High Heels will force your back to arch and thereby force your buttocks to stick out more.
  • Head High and Chest Out
Walk with with proper posture, shoulders relaxed and pulled back. Push your chest out but not exaggerated. Hold your head up high. Try slightly bobbing your head as you walk. Practice this allowing your hair to sway gently.
  • Little steps
Learn to walk slower and take shorter steps. Try taking half the stride you would nomally take. Keep your legs, knees and feet as close together as you can while you walk. Wear a skirt that is tight around your knees as this will help. Wearing heels will make you take shorter steps.
  •  Mirror / Camera
Use full length mirrors to monitor your walk, movements and posture. Record your movements and make notes where you may improve. Practise Practise Practise and have fun.

Standing like a lady

 

Posture is imperative. Always be aware of your standing position. Keep your head up and chest out. Keep your arms and legs close to your body. Women are much more relaxed and angular while standing. Try putting most of your weight on one foot and push your hip out slightly to the side let the opposite leg relax and bend your knee a little. This is a very feminine stance.

                                                            OR

Try standing very straight with your feet only a few inches apart. Shoulders back and relaxed. Let your arms fall free in front and clasp your hands together lightly with palms up.Hold a purse in your hands or over your shoulder while standing like this. A great comfortable look when waiting in line, chatting with someone etc.. 

Getting Out Of Your Car

Instructions

A lady would have a gentleman drive her where she is going, open her door and assist her out. If not, and you are driving on your own, adhere to the following when getting out of your own car alone.

Step1
 
Adjust your skirt before you open the door or begin to exit the car. Pull your skirt down as far as you can to cover your legs.
 
Step2
 
Open the door or have someone open the door for you. Make sure that the door is open wide enough to get both your legs through at the same time.
 
Step3
 
Keep your knees together. If you can, cross your outside leg over your inside leg as you rotate your body to exit the car, which will cover the space between your legs from view.
 
Step4
 
Rotate your body while remaining seated. If you can, place your feet firmly on the ground while seated in the car. If you're in a truck or SUV, place your feet on the ledge.
 
Step5
 
Get a firm grip on the seat with both hands and push your body up using your hands. Watch your head and you stand up out of the car. If you're in a truck or SUV, stand up as much as you can on the ledge, turn around so that you are facing the car again and gently step down while holding on to the handle.
 
Step6
 
Be careful not to slip as you exit the car or to snag your clothing on the seat belt or door. A great exit can be ruined by a careless finish.
